Within five and half hours of going live the All My Friends are Zombies Kickstarter reached its goal! I can't thank my backers and fans enough, a simple "thank you" just doesn't seem big enough. I owe everything to the zombie fans out there, you guys ROCK!

Just because the Kickstarter's goal has been met doesn't mean that it's over. It means that when you back the book there's no longer a chance you'll be receiving your zombie goodies, it's now a certainty and I can't wait to start sending them out to their new homes.

I'll be posting stretch goals soon, stay tuned!

The past week has been a big one for AMFaZ. I got together with a voice actor to narrate the short teaser video for the book. Which will be going live in two hours as I'm writing this. It runs 01:28 and is much better than the last one I put out. Full of mystery and awesomeness. Hopefully it does the trick to oil the gears of hype for the books release. We're going to need as many people as possible on board with the book when the Kickstarter launches in order to make the funding limit. *Tell your friends* Those of you who have joined the newsletter have already seen the video (or at very least it's waiting for you in your inbox)

I'm currently taking a break from putting the pages in order and making the final layout for the book before I send off for a demo copy. The book has changed a lot sense the last demo copy I received  In fact at this point it's basically a whole new book. For the better of course, it's now got more substance, a bit of a narrative, and a much better look to it!

Lastly, in case you missed it, there's new downloadable wallpaper and a new Google Chrome theme in the freebies section of this page. Feel free to take a look and snag what you like.

Cheers!
Matt

It's been a while since my last update, but trust me, I've been burning the midnight oil days on end getting to where I am now. With that said, the final pages of the book should be finished by the end of the day tomorrow! This is huge news. As soon as the pages are set and edited, I'll be sending out for a demo copy of the book. Well, I'll be sending out for two of them as the second copy will be sent to a lucky fan for a very first sneak peak of the pages. But more on that later.

Now that I'm so close to the completion of this project expect many more updates on both the book and the soon to kick off Kickstarter project that will help fund the publication of AMFaZ.

Keep your eyes open in the coming weeks, I'll need all of your help to get this book where I'd eventually like it.

Pulling all nighters and using every bit of spare time I have, I've managed to get close to where I was before the hard drive crashed. Woo! I'm also backing up the whole project every time I stop working. (probably should have been doing that from the start) lesson learned!

So there's a bit of bad news. I'm trying to spin it into something that's not terrible, but a few nights ago tragedy struck.

My dog, who's appetite for the squirls outside the window is fierce, lept up from beneath the table after spotting one of the grey creatures. She ran in a frenzy toward it with total disregard to the laptops power cord laying in the ground in her path. With little effort she pushed her way past the thin white cable and in doing so pulled the cord and the laptop to the ground behind her. With a crack and a bang the laptop hit the ground. The screen immediately turned a ghostly white and the hard drive inside now only makes a soft crancking sound. My work. My finished pages. I had backed up my work too long ago. It was all lost. I still have the illustrations and the interviews but the completed pages are now nothing but a memory.

All though I may not have lost all of the work I had done, I lost enough that this incident will push the release back a month or so. It pains me to have to type a post containing such bad news.

TL:DR - broken hard drive = a month more work to catch up to where I was a few days ago.

The book is really coming together. So much so that I've started really started diving into the Kickstarter train of thought. I'm working on the video, getting the different pledge tiers sorted out, and gathering together all the different promotional items.

As for the next All My Friends are Zombies giveaway, it's going to be a rather large one. I'd like to test out most of the merch before hand to make sure everything is up to par. That means that all of the merch that I order to test I'll be giving away to one or more of the AMFaZ Facebook fans. If all goes to plan the contest will hopefully be set up and ready to go by the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for this one, you won't want to miss it!

Picture
All My Friends are Zombies is getting very close to being finished. As you can see from the picture on the left as well as the one at the bottom, the inside pages have taken on a different look. One that I feel captures the "thrown together while surviving the apocalypse" feel. When I received the demo book the first thing I noticed about the pages was that they all had the same feel. Open the book at any spot and you'll find the interview on the left hand page and the zombie illustration on the right. Over and over again. With the new setup I think the book will feel much more dynamic and each page will look slightly different than the last.

I've started thinking a lot about the Kickstarter video as the book is so close to being ready for the public. Currently the plan for the video is going to be a voiceover while the camera rolls over the inside pages of All My Friends are Zombies. This will give the viewer much more of an idea of what's actually inside the book and I don't have to put myself infront of a camera. I also don't own the best camera and who wants to watch a video that's been shot with the resolution of a potato? Not this guy!

I'll end with reminder that, as of this post, there's less than a week left to enter the Facebook contest and win a free copy of the AMFaZ Demo Book. Good luck!

The demo copy of AMFaZ arrived on my doorstep a week ago and the red pen hit the paper almost instantly. Actually holding a copy of the book and turning the pages caused me to rethink the interior layout. As the demo stands, it feels a bit "same-y" every page has the same feel as the last, and that's not something I think is a good thing. Not to worry though!  I've taken the red pen and completely redesigned the inside pages.

But that's why demos are a great idea. I refuse to release this book until it's polished and gleaming with awesomeness, and with the new layout it's starting to do just that. I've got to say, I'm very pleased.

The new AMFaZ site is up and running. Notable changes include a nice new look, a mailing list option to receive news on the progress being made on the book and a few other perks, and a totally redesigned sneak peek page with more pages from within the book.

In other news, the first draft of AMFaZ is getting very close to being finished. Only a few pages left to be edited! Going into this project I had no idea how complicated creating a book by myself would be. There's much more than just slapping a few images to a page and calling it done.  That's no complant by the way, it's going to be worth it once it's finished.

Here's the finished AMFaZ promo poster which will be one of the incentives once the Kickstarter is launched.
